When I was in Tucson at the Gem &
Jewelry/Bead Show in February 2006, I met a fascinating woman
named Eleanor Wiley. She is an artist who didn't start
creating beaded jewelry until she was 58 years old. She designed the
Sacred Wheel of Peace with the intent of honoring all spiritual
paths.
The outer edge of the wheel is a
representation of the rituals we practice separate from one
another. Each spoke of the wheel represents a spiritual path.
As we move down the spoke or deeper into our journey of
spirituality we find that we come closer to the other spokes.
The hub or center of the wheel represents the place where we can be together in silence
and peace.
During these turbulent times, I find
the message of Eleanor's Sacred Wheel to be wonderfully powerful
and inspirational. If you get a chance, you should read
her book, A String And A Prayer. It explains the history
of prayer beads along with some instruction on stringing
prayer beads. It is very interesting and I highly
recommend it. You can visit her website at
